"Why I Think Digital Information Products are Clever"
Digital information products are "clever" because they are easy. They are easy to create (or find). They are easy to reproduce. They are easy to deliver - especially when the entire process can take place online.
Easy Creation
This little note is a digital information product. It did not take long to create. I wrote. I edited as I went along. I went back, read it through, and edited once again.
While sellers sometimes create their own information products, it is possible for products to be created by someone else. Sellers may commission products as "works for hire" (through places like elance.com), or they might find materials from the public domain to freely use for their products.
Easy Reproduction and Easy Delivery
How easy is it for me to reproduce my digital information products? It is so easy, that I personally do not actually need to do anything in order to reproduce my materials.
My customers actually do all of the reproducing for me. I create my product the first time. I upload it to my web host, and then my customers download a copy of the product for themselves. I call that "easy reproduction" and "easy delivery".
What Makes Digital Information Products "Highly" Clever?
The answer to that question is measured in dollars. A highly clever seller is able to create the perception that a digital information product carries value. "This product has information to solve your complex problems." "This product has information to can get you out of your desperate situation." "This product has the capacity to earn back your purchase price and more." Highly clever sellers lay out the benefits and price their products to sell - sometimes managing sales at hundreds and even thousands of dollars!
